The Newark Jail Birds got a stellar performance from pitcher Fabio de Kroon, who handcuffed the Boise offense en route to a 8-2 win at Cobras Ballpark. de Kroon, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 4 walks. John Freemann finished to wrap up his 3rd save.

The Jail Birds got a lift from second baseman Rob Finch who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Sean Nichols. It was his 9th walk of the season and put Newark in front, 1-0.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Newark manager Johan Gillberry.

Newark is off to a sluggish start, getting just their 6th win in 17 games.
