Conditions were not ideal but Newark and Marysville were able to put their game in the books.

Newark Jail Birds starter Manabu Yamauchi was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Marysville Monarchs, 4-2. Yamauchi got the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 5 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Yamauchi allowed 2 earned runs. John Freemann closed the door for Newark, picking up his 2nd save of the year.

Víctor Hernando came through for Newark with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh. The designated hitter went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 2 runs batted in.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Hernando said after the game.
