Ducks Prevail, 7-5, Over DeKalb
|
José Marrero had a good game, but he could not keep the DeKalb Cornhuskers from falling, 7-5, to the Long Island Ducks at Long Island Stadium. The DeKalb first baseman was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 in the loss. Naoki Okada, the winner, improved to 2-0. He held the Cornhuskers to 5 earned runs on 5 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Takamasa Oki earned the save, his 2nd, for the Ducks.
Ken Cashmann aided the Long Island cause with a 2-run single in the bottom of the second. For the game, the first baseman was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
Cashmann called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
Long Island, now 3-5, is off to a slow start.
