The Fraser Valley Black Bears picked up a win at The Stetson Bowl, knocking off the Rock River Rats, 7-1. Starting pitcher Manuel Cortéz, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Cortéz went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 5, and struck out 2. His record improves to 1-0. The Black Bears, now 3-0, have hit the ground running this season.

The Black Bears got a big at-bat from right fielder Cody Nelson. For the game, Nelson went 1-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Fraser Valley a 2-0 lead.
