Fans of the Marysville Monarchs who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Marysville win over the visiting Buzzard's Bay Beetlecats, 6-5. Luis Rodríguez started for the home team against Kyuji Aoki. Jorge Silva earned the coveted player of the game honors. Curt Woods, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.1 innings.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Bill Riel was at the plate when Marysville scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Monarchs to go in front, 6-5.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Riel. "And not try to do too much."
