Kiyoji Matsumoto was instrumental in his team's 5-1 triumph over the Vancouver Canadians. The catcher was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while scoring 2 runs for the Albuquerque Cacti. Albuquerque reliever Dan Thompson was credited with the win, to go to 17-8. Bob Johnston took the loss for Vancouver. Hisataro Sato converted his 49th save in 55 tries.

Kijuro Masuda was 1 for 4 for Albuquerque. The 27-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Bob Johnston. It was his 73rd RBI of the season.

"This was a good win for us," said Masuda. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."

The first-place Cacti, at 101-60, now lead their division by 16 games.
