Kodiaks Can't Finish, Lose 4-2
|
The Antioch Coal Miners got a stellar performance from pitcher Matsuyo Koda, who handcuffed the Calgary offense en route to a 4-2 win at The Coal Mine. Zak Osborn converted his 16th save in 21 tries. The first-place Coal Miners, at 91-65, now lead their division by 4½ games.
The Coal Miners got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Ichizo Hamada. For the game, Hamada went 1 for 1. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 130th hit of the season gave Antioch a 3-2 lead.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Calgary skipper Shigetaka Ohayashi, "and it cost us."
