Caterpillars Raise Rally Flag, Beat Detroit, 5-3
|
Peoria starter Graeme Hughes pitched effectively against the Detroit Death Stars at The Death Star. The right-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Matt Howard picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 6-0. Armando Medina was tagged with the loss. Peoria bumps their record to 71-76 with the win.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning when the Caterpillars sent 22-year-old right fielder José Marrero to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and reached on an error by the 1B, driving in 1 run, to put Peoria on top, 5-3.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Peoria manager Roberto Martínez.
