Fireballs Lose, 4-2, at Golden Fleece Park

The Joplin Fireballs got a sterling performance from pitcher Clay Melsom, but the Argonauts still prevailed, 4-2. Melsom was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Miguel Padilla picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 6-4. Clay Melsom was tagged with the loss. Carlos Alonzo was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 22 of 26 save opportunities.
The Argonauts got a big at-bat from catcher Thomas Bernard. For the game, Bernard went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Astoria a 4-2 lead.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Astoria manager Bernard Jacq.
Astoria bumps their record to 72-75 with the win.
