The Fort Worth Cats got a stellar effort from pitcher James Akehurst, helping Fort Worth score a 5-2 win over the visiting Omaha Raptors. In 7.1 innings, Akehurst surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Bobby Saxon earned his 35th save in 39 chances.

Had Pedro Mercado not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Mercado hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Cats.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Mercado said.

The Cats bumped their record to 67-64 with this latest triumph.
