Fort Worth got a terrific performance from pitcher He-ping Wang, but it wasn't enough to beat the Coronado Phantoms. Coronado won the LaGrave Field contest, 3-2. Wang was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Coronado is 35-54 and Fort Worth, with the loss, 42-48.
Had Pete Bauer not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Bauer hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Phantoms.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Bauer, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
