Islanders Need Extra Frames to Get Past Tornadoes
|
The Hawaii Islanders beat the Kansas City Tornadoes, 5-3, at Aloha Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of center fielder Zane Mogeni, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Hawaii reliever Hidetada Abe picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Munemori Abe absorbed the loss. The Tornadoes drop to 11-15 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2033 season.
Jim Burry, who is tied for 10th in the RCL in total bases with 49, chipped in for Hawaii with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the tenth. For the game, the second baseman had 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Mogeni said.
