Victory Pushes Cacti Record to 52-31
|
The Albuquerque Cacti grabbed a 7-4 win over the Fort Worth Cats at Albuquerque Sports Stadium. Albuquerque third baseman John Gregg went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once to earn player of the game honors. Matt Nolan got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Fort Worth, at 37-46, has lost 4 straight.
Had Scotti Scannell not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Scannell hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Cacti.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Scannell, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
