Mustangs Prevail, 7-5, Over Detroit
|
The Billings Mustangs overcame a good performance by Detroit shortstop Tony Martinez to knock off Detroit, 7-5, at Cobb Field. Martinez went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. Kevin Labbee, credited with the win, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The Mustangs bumped their record to 38-37 with this latest triumph.
The Mustangs got a big at-bat from third baseman Kerry Hood. For the game, Hood went 2-4 with a triple and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 72nd hit of the season gave Billings a 6-5 lead.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Hood, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
