Argonauts Turn Back Reno, 7-5
|
The Astoria Argonauts beat the Reno Raiders, 7-5, at Golden Fleece Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Will Southern, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Kent Williams got credit for the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 1 run on no hits in 2 innings. Carlos Alonzo converted his 9th save in 9 tries.
Pablo Sosa, who is tied for 2nd in the DKL in triples with 4, aided the Astoria cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the shortstop was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk.
"If it's down the middle," said Southern, "you might as well hit it."
With the win, Astoria goes to 29-42, while the Raiders fall to 36-34.
