Billings got a terrific performance from pitcher José Chávez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Minneapolis Freeze. Minneapolis won the The Ice Box contest, 4-3. Chávez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings allowing 4 runs. The winner was Minneapolis reliever Bob Torley, now 2-0. The loser was José Chávez. Pedro García was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 11 save opportunities.

Had Tommy Moore not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Moore hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Freeze.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Billings manager Greg Morgan.

Minneapolis leads the Darryl Kile League Joe Torre Division by 5½ games.
