Cats Win at Indian Wells, 6-2
|
The Fort Worth Cats got a stellar performance from pitcher James Akehurst, who handcuffed the Indian Wells offense en route to a 6-2 win at Stars Field. Akehurst, now 1-3, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Bobby Saxon converted his 15th save in 18 tries.
The Cats got a big at-bat from first baseman Hirokichi Fujimoto. For the game, Fujimoto went 1 for 5 with a double. In the top of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 10th double of the season gave Fort Worth a 1-0 lead.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Fujimoto. "And not try to do too much."
The Cats sit in 5th place in the Nick Adenhart League Bobby Cox Division with a record of 23-35.
