Coal Miners Jolt Freeze with Late Rally
|
The Minneapolis Freeze got a sterling performance from pitcher Dave Sherrill, but the Coal Miners still prevailed, 2-1. Sherrill was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings allowing 1 run. Antioch, now 9-16, is off to a slow start.
The Coal Miners got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Alfredo García. For the game, García went 1 for 1. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 14th hit of the season gave Antioch a 2-1 lead.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said García. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
