Pioneers Trounce Grays, 10-3
|
Vancouver left-hander Tony Velázquez made an effective start against the Georgia Grays at The Death Star, leading his team to a 10-3 win. Even with the win, it has been a disastrous start to the year for the Pioneers, who once had aspirations of returning to the playoffs but now find themselves mired in 5th place at 6-12.
The Pioneers got a big at-bat from catcher Shunsho Meshizuka. For the game, Meshizuka went 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run single. His 8th hit of the season gave Vancouver a 4-2 lead.
"I liked his command," said Vancouver manager Kojuro Ohayashi. "Tony was throwing strikes."
