Black Bears Sneak Past Ducks, 11-10
|
Crowds lined up early in front of The Stetson Bowl, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2033 DOUBLE A season. On the mound was Ricardo Hernández for the visiting Long Island Ducks and Lourenço Russa for the hometown Fraser Valley Black Bears. In a spirited contest, the Black Bears pulled out the win, defeating the Ducks by the score of 11-10. Earning player of the game honors was Milt Mezzanotte. Shu-de Tian, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings.
Mezzanotte had a game-changing single in the bottom of the tenth. On a full count fastball from Maurice Oakley, he banged a run-scoring single to right-center, giving the Black Bears a 11-10 lead. It was the 2nd hit of the year for Mezzanotte.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Mezzanotte.
