Texans Come Back Late, Nip Republic
|
The Texans faced a stiff challenge from So Cal pitcher Phoenix Smith, but persevered to claim a win at Metroplex Park. The final score was 3-2. Smith went 7 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Dallas reliever Ashoka Pancholi picked up the win, bumping his record to 4-6. Lloyd Hunt was collared with the loss. Adrien Clément earned his 35th save in 44 chances.
Had Dave Stoner not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Stoner hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Texans.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Dallas skipper Anastasio Ojeda. "I can't complain."
Dallas is now riding a 3-game win streak.
