Stogies Score Late, Upend Black Knights, 3-2

The Havana Stogies did just enough to sneak past the Brooklyn Black Knights, 3-2, at The Humidor. Havana pitcher Peter Miner earned player of the game honors. The win was Félix Ruíz's in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Kunihiko Mizuno took the loss for Brooklyn. Ti-an Dan earned his 21st save in 25 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman John Oakes came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Kunihiko Mizuno, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Havana on top, 3-2.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Brooklyn skipper Diego Aguirre.
The first-place Stogies have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
