Baba goes 3-for-3 as Beavers Squeeze Past Seattle
|
The Portland Beavers topped the Seattle Sasquatch, 5-4, with right fielder Motoyasu Baba playing a big role. Baba went 3-3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Beavers in the win. The win was Jake Adkins's in relief. His record improves to 4-5. Tadahisa Minami took the loss for Seattle. Olivier Martin converted his 38th save in 44 tries.
Had Lai-hsiang Xiu not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Xiu hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Beavers.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Seattle manager Carl Best.
The Beavers are now 74-81, while the Sasquatch fall to 50-105.
