Big Day for Taniguchi: Swats 5 Hits
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Tokuhei Taniguchi, it came around today.
The 29-year-old first baseman scattered hits all over The Brew Stade to pace the San Diego Hops to a 7-3 victory over the Portland Beavers.
Portland skipper John Harrison told reporters in the press room that "Taniguchi deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Taniguchi hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Tokuhei Taniguchi singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
In his season totals, Taniguchi has 32 home runs, .285 BA, .344 OBP, 109 RBIs and 89 runs scored. He has played in 153 games.
