Black Knights Score Late to Upend Jacks, 3-2
|
The Black Knights grabbed a win, 3-2, at Blue Ivy Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Jacksonville pitcher John Spracklin. Spracklin went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. Jan Shirazi earned the win for Brooklyn. He lasted 8 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 11-13. The Black Knights bumped their record to 79-72 with this latest triumph.
Had Todd McCarthy not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, McCarthy hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Black Knights.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," McCarthy told the Brooklyn Gazette.
