Pioneers Get Close Win Over Hornets
|
The Vancouver Pioneers topped the Eureka Hornets, 5-3, in Thurman Munson League action at The Nest. The player of the game was Vancouver pitcher and Machiques, Venezuela native Tony Velázquez. Wilson Deleón got the save, his 1st in 1 chances. With the win over Eureka, the Pioneers improved to 54-84.
Had Ruben Torres not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Torres hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Pioneers.
Torres told a Vancouver Daily News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
