The Columbus Aces took Portland pitcher Felipe De La Hoya's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Waterfront Park. The final score had Columbus getting past the Beavers, 3-1. De La Hoya went 8 innings and allowed 1 earned run, striking out 8. Columbus is now 49-87, Portland 65-73.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Jeremy Bassett came to bat in the top of the 16th. Facing Portland pitcher Michael Smith, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Columbus on top, 2-1.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Bassett told reporters after the game.
