Hornets Mow Down Pioneers, 9-4
|
The Eureka Hornets defeated the Vancouver Pioneers, 9-4, in Thurman Munson League action at The Nest. Ron Jeremy received player of the game honors. The 7-year veteran went 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Walt Lawson, who threw 115 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits. Su-gyung Park notched his 1st save in 1 chances.
The Hornets got a big at-bat from right fielder Mike McCaw. For the game, McCaw went 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 22nd double of the season gave Eureka a 6-4 lead.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Eureka skipper Stephen Jackson.
The Hornets bumped their record to 68-68 with this latest triumph.
