Hops Need Extras to Top Tornadoes
San Diego first baseman Tokuhei Taniguchi was instrumental in his team's 5-3 win over the Kansas City Tornadoes. Taniguchi, who is tied for 3rd in the RCL in home runs with 28, went 3-5 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Hops. Juan Vázquez picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-7. Munemori Abe was tagged with the loss. Even with the win, the Hops have a dismal 43-89 record.

Taniguchi had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the 11th. On a 2-2 cutter from Munemori Abe, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Hops a 5-3 lead. It was the 28th home run of the year for Taniguchi.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Taniguchi told reporters after the game.
