Havana Hot Streak Continues with 6-5 Win
|
The Hawaii Islanders got a superb performance from right fielder Antonio Roman, but the Havana Stogies still won the game, 6-5. Roman was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Peter Miner earned the win to go to 3-0. He allowed 5 earned runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. Earning his 5th save for Havana was Abdul Razzaq Kharoti.
The Stogies got a big at-bat from right fielder Jesús Velásquez. For the game, Velásquez was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Havana a 5-4 lead.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Velásquez. "And not try to do too much."
Havana, now 9-4, has gotten their season off to a good start.
