Earthquakes Walk Off with Win
|
The San Francisco Earthquakes beat the Cabo San Lucas Toreros, 3-1, at Golden Gate Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Ruben Estrada, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Reliever Nicolas Joubert picked up the win. His record improves to 2-3. Joey Steamer took the loss. The win puts the Earthquakes at 50-75, while the Toreros drop to 50-77.
Estrada had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the ninth. On a first pitch splitter from Tomio Nakahara, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Earthquakes a 3-1 lead. It was the 20th home run of the year for Estrada.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Earthquakes manager Joe Ward, "I like our chances."
