Jacks Lose to Aces, 7-4
|
The Columbus Aces beat the Jacksonville Jacks, 7-4, at Central Park Downtown Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Jeremy Bassett, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs. Reliever Thomas Wright picked up the win. His record improves to 5-4. John Holmes took the loss. Amaui Mahi'ai converted his 14th save in 18 tries.
The Aces got a big at-bat from left fielder Greg Holder. For the game, Holder was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Columbus a 6-4 lead.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Holder told the Columbus Chronicle.
The win puts the Aces at 44-81, while the Jacks drop to 58-67.
