Stogies Score Late, Stun Black Knights, 6-3
|
The Havana Stogies defeated the Brooklyn Black Knights, 6-3, at The Humidor. Havana first baseman Kohei Matsumoto was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Havana reliever Joe Jackson got the win, raising his record to 6-2. Cong Foong was tagged with the loss. Ti-an Dan notched his 14th save in 16 chances.
The Stogies got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Shi-kai Tsu. For the game, Tsu was 1-1. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 91st hit of the season gave Havana a 4-3 lead.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Matsumoto told the Havana Times.
The first-place Stogies, at 90-35, now lead their division by 15½ games.
