Late Rally by Stogies Secures Win
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Havana Stogies and the Brooklyn Black Knights, Joe Gillard was the difference-maker. The Havana right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 2-0 win. Havana reliever Son Mai picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-0. Cong Foong was collared with the loss. The Stogies bumped their record to 88-35 with this latest triumph.
Had Kohei Matsumoto not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Matsumoto hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 2-0, in favor of the Stogies.
Matsumoto called the win "a collective effort."
