Republic Get One-Run Win at Rubber City
The So Cal Republic picked up a win at The Rubber Grounds, knocking off the Rubber City Rhinos, 3-2. Starting pitcher Phoenix Smith, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Smith went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 3-0. Pin-zhen Au notched his 43rd save in 46 chances.

Orlando González aided the So Cal cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder went 2-3 with 2 singles and was hit by a pitch.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said González. "And not try to do too much."

The first-place Republic, at 90-28, now lead their division by 16˝ games.
