The So Cal Republic knocked off the Hawaii Islanders, 9-1, at House of the Republic. Zeus Mayhem, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason So Cal won. The designated hitter was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The Islanders, now 60-48, have lost 6 in a row.

The Republic got a big at-bat from right fielder Gerd Zabel. For the game, Zabel went 1 for 4. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 101st hit of the season gave So Cal a 2-1 lead.

"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager Leland Ray. "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."
