Germán Helps Republic Run Win Streak to 8
|
The So Cal Republic defeated the Hawaii Islanders, 10-7, in Roberto Clemente League action at House of the Republic. Fernando Germán received player of the game honors. The 13-year veteran was 2-2 with a home run. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. So Cal has now won 8 straight.
The Republic got a big at-bat from second baseman Jorge Martínez. For the game, Martínez went 1-4 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 63rd hit of the season gave So Cal a 2-0 lead.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Martínez. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
