Havana Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 3-2
|
Already down in the League Pennant, the Havana Stogies put on their best show, beating the So Cal Republic by a final score of 2-1 today. Jimmy Hunter earned player of the game honors, as he threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Havana now trails So Cal 3-2 in the best-of-7 affair.
Had John Oakes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Oakes hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Stogies.
"Jimmy is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Havana manager Reynaldo Vázquez.
Game 6 is scheduled for Wednesday in Los Angeles. Slated to start are Felipe Arreola for Havana and Tanner Johnson for So Cal.
