Velásquez, Stogies Wallop Republic in Game 1 of R3
The Havana Stogies started the League Pennant in dominant fashion today, blowing out the host So Cal Republic at House of the Republic by a score of 11-4 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Stogies catcher Arturo Velásquez was named player of the game as he was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4.

Velásquez had an important at-bat with a runner on 1st in the top of the second, when he reached on an error by the right fielder. The Stogies went on to win.

"We're happy," Velásquez told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at House of the Republic. Slated to start are Felipe Arreola for the Havana Stogies and Tanner Johnson for the the So Cal Republic.
