Nutcrackers Raise Rally Flag, Beat Montreal, 6-5
|
The rain came, as predicted, but the Normal Nutcrackers and Montreal Cardinals were able to complete their ballgame.
The Normal Nutcrackers beat the Montreal Cardinals, 6-5, at Denis Coderre Stadium. The Nutcrackers got a fine performance from right fielder Doug Hinton, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-3 with 3 singles. Normal reliever Ryan Hamblin picked up the win to move to 4-1. Pete Murphy suffered the loss.
The Nutcrackers got a big at-bat from left fielder Willie Zavala. For the game, Zavala went 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 73rd hit of the season gave Normal a 6-5 lead.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Zavala said after the game.
The Nutcrackers bumped their record to 35-35 with this latest triumph.
