Islanders Need Extra Frames to Get Past Stogies
|
Allen Cox never let the Stogies get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his splitter, to pitch the Islanders to a 3-1 win. Keith Martin was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 7 save opportunities. Hawaii is in second place in the Roberto Clemente League William Atteberry Division with a record of 57-39.
Though he did not get the decision, Cox did all he could to keep his team close, twirling a shutout through 8 innings, until Hawaii eventually rallied past the Stogies.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Hawaii manager Leland Ray. "It's usually not just one thing."
