Multi-HR Day for Southern as Grognards Overpower Nutcrackers, 12-6
|
St. Paul catcher Peter Southern was instrumental in his team's 12-6 win over the Normal Nutcrackers. Southern, who is tied for 10th in the CFL with a .609 slugging percentage, went 3-4 with 3 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Grognards. William Rigby was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. The Grognards move to 31-35 with the win, while the Nutcrackers drop to 34-32.
Southern had a big at-bat with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning, when he hit a grand slam. The Grognards went on to win.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Southern told the St. Paul Daily News.
