|
The Nutcrackers grabbed a win, 4-1, at The Nutcracker Suite, overcoming a fine effort from St. Paul pitcher Geoff Baxter. Baxter went 6 innings and allowed no earned runs. Normal reliever Jack Mainjer was the winner. His record is now 6-3. The losing pitcher was Ryan Jernigan. David Vince notched his 19th save in 23 chances.
Had Rob Tyra not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Tyra hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Nutcrackers.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Tyra said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Normal is now riding a 3-game win streak.
