The Eureka Hornets picked up a win at The Nest, knocking off the Kansas City Tornadoes, 5-2. Starting pitcher Pat Sheffield, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Sheffield, now 6-8, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. Alim bin Umar, credited with the save, is now 4 for 4 in save opportunities.

Had Ron Jeremy not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Jeremy hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Hornets.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Sheffield said.

The Hornets now have a record of 48-48.
