The Yuma Varmits topped the Paradise Island Pirates, 9-2, in Cecil Fielder League action at The Range. The player of the game was Yuma pitcher Sandy Ponce. The win was Chris Wilson's in relief. His record improves to 9-2. Iwane Kanda took the loss for Paradise Island. Sandy Ponce converted his 2nd save in 2 tries.

The Varmits got a big at-bat from right fielder Yashpal Rob. For the game, Rob went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Yuma a 3-0 lead.

"Enjoyed this one," Rob told the Yuma Gazette. "But it's back to work tomorrow."

The Varmits bumped their record to 30-25 with this latest triumph.
