Hops Win at Portland, 5-3
|
The San Diego Hops picked up a win at Waterfront Park, knocking off the Portland Beavers, 5-3. Starting pitcher Prince Percival Papenfuss, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Papenfuss went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-0. Zong-yuan Sang closed the door for San Diego, picking up his 1st save of the year.
The Hops got a big at-bat from first baseman Tokuhei Taniguchi. For the game, Taniguchi went 2-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. In the top of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave San Diego a 3-1 lead.
"Feels good to get the job done," Papenfuss said after the game.
The win takes San Diego to 4-5.
