Cardinals Need Extra Frames to Get Past Varmits
|
The Cardinals faced a stiff challenge from Yuma pitcher Nick Buonanno, but persevered to claim a win at The Range. The final score was 3-1. Buonanno went 9 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Pete Murphy, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 8th save. Montreal has now reeled off 6 straight wins.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from first baseman Toshiharu Kaneshiro. For the game, Kaneshiro went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the tenth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Montreal a 3-1 lead.
Kaneshiro expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
