The Yuma Varmits did just enough to sneak past the Lumber Kings, 7-6, at Epic Park. Yuma first baseman Phil Dick earned player of the game honors. Johnny Gonzalez earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 5 earned runs on 13 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Chris Wilson closed the game out for Yuma, earning his 2nd save.

Had Bryan Marr not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases empty, Marr hit a solo home run. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Varmits.

"Glad to get this win," said Marr. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."

The Varmits raised their record to 6-3.
