Grognards Sneak Past Nutcrackers, 3-2
|
The Grognards had to overcome a good performance from Normal pitcher Jack Mainjer to claim a 3-2 win at The Nutcracker Suite. Mainjer went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs. St. Paul reliever Jon Simmons was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. David Vince took the loss for Normal. Ben Krupnik finished the game for St. Paul and earned his 1st save.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 2nd and two out in the top of the eighth inning. That's when third baseman Matthew Rogers got hit by a pitch. The Grognards went on to win.
Rogers called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
St. Paul, at 2-0, is off to a blistering start.
