Sabercats Prevail, 5-3, Over Victoria
|
Fans of the Sedona Sabercats who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Sedona win over the visiting Victoria Totems, 5-3. Ian Portz started for the home team against Danny Zomosa. Ian Portz earned the coveted player of the game honors. Portz went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 0, and struck out 9. His record improves to 1-0.
The Sabercats got a big at-bat from first baseman Andy Cote. For the game, Cote was 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Sedona a 5-3 lead.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Cote said.
